Application Process

Criteria to be part of AVID

All potential students go through an interview process with the AVID team to see if they possess individual determination to be college and career ready. After the interview, the selection committee reviews student record and looks at:
 
  • Student Academic Performance-Middle School Students: Must have a GPA of 2.5 - 4.0 GPA in recent report card-Elementary Students (Potential 6th grade students): 4's, 3's and 2's in report card. No 1's
  • Excellent Work Habits and Cooperation Marks- Excellent behavior in class- Exhibits attributes of perseverance, respect, integrity, drive, and empathy in everything they do- No referrals on students records
  • Test Scores- Average or above test scores in English Language Arts and Mathematics - i-Ready and Smarter Balanced
 

How do I initiate the process for my student to get accepted into AVID?

If you are interested in having your student join the AVID program, please email AVID coordinator: Mr. Hernandez - [email protected] to set up an interview appointment. During the interview, please bring students recent report card.
 
Note: Students at Fleming Middle school may not be enrolled in more than one specialized program. Therefore, If a student is part of our School of Advanced Studies (SAS), MAGNET, or Dual Language, they will not be able to be part of our AVID program. Please contact Mr. Hernandez to determine what program is best for your student.
