AVID

What is AVID?

AVID, stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination, is a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college.  The program places special emphasis on growing writing, critical thinking, teamwork, organization and reading skills. It provides students opportunities to be college and career ready through both the AVID Elective and our AVID content courses. All our teachers are trained in AVID strategies that support student engagement, higher level thinking, and collaboration to accelerate student learning. Our program helps support:
  • Closing the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
  • Accelerating student learning
  • Inspires student agency, giving student choice and voice on how they learn.
  • Provides students with high expectations, access and support in rigorous curriculum.
  • Teach skills and behaviors for academic success
  • Focus on building student’s leadership and self-advocacy skills
  • Create a positive peer group for students
  • Develop a sense of hope for personal achievement gained through hard work and determination

All of these skills and college and career readiness opportunities will be developed in the AVID elective and reinforced in all our students content classes.
